ECS appointed as the first authorised Sun Education Centre (ASEC) in Singapore

Singapore, 6th June 2000 - Sun Microsystems announced the appointment of ECS Computers (Asia) Pte Ltd as its Sun Educational Services (SES) training partner under the Authorised Sun Education Centre (ASEC) programme.

ECS is the only SES training partner in Singapore to offer both Solaris and Java Technology training. Couses related to the iPlanet suite of products are also being offered by ECS. It had been authorised by Sun to conduct Solaris operating environment classes for the past five years and to conduct Java technology courses for the past two years.

The authorised Sun Education Centre program is the wide initiative to deliver Solaris™ and Java™ technology courses under a common brand. This branding serves to elevate the market awareness of Sun's affiliates through a programme to deliver high-quality education.

By including all Sun supported technologies under one brand, affiliates like ECS will be able to provide complete customer solutions under a global, unified branding to reach a broader market. This is in line with Sun's vision of expanding its portfolio of offerings with innovations for e-commerce and the .com world. "ECS is proud to be appointed as the first Authorised Sun Education Centre (ASEC) in Singapore. The appointment signifies our long-term partnership with Sun as its training affiliate and our commitment to deliver quality education to our customers. It comes at an opportune time as there is a high demand for training for the Solaris operating environment, Java technology and e-commerce brought about by Sun's dot.com revolution", said Mr Tay Eng Hoe, Managing Director of ECS.

The growth of the Net economy has engendered the demand for IT education. This has continued to grow by leaps and bounds. According to U.S. Department of Commerce report in June 1999, The Digital Workforce : Building Infotech skills at the speed of innovation, the demand for core IT workers such as computer engineers, analysts and programmers will grow from 2.1 million in 1999 to 2.6 million in 2006. The same trend is happening in Singapore. An increasing number of IT professionals are aware of Sun's leadership in various technologies such as Java technology. "Sun Educational Services will tap on this growing market opportunity with innovative technologies and quality education and maintain its position in the front of competition. It is an opportune time to relaunch the Sun Educational Services brand as we enter the next phase of growth", said Ms Yeow Cheng Lian, Director, Sun Educational Services, Asia South.

The Training Division of ECS is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art IT equipment to facilitate training. It provides high quality training programs in operations, configuration and maintenance of Sun's entire line of UNIX workstations and servers. At ECS, customers are taught how to administer Solaris Operating System, Java Applets, Java Development Applications, Java Programming, Java Client Development, Web Publishing and E-commerce implementation courses related to iPlanet suite of products. Mr Tay of ECS added that, "ECS will continue to invest in upgrading the technical skills of its trainers and the IT infrastructure of the Training Division to meet the demands of customers".
